Seven feet long Buddha in a sleeping pose (the only carving showing him in this pose) after he gives up his life. The surrounding figures (not visible) here show his followers mourning his passing.

This is the famous "Temptation of Mara." Mara is the evil one who tries to tempt Buddha away from his life as an ascetic. (He was originally born as a Prince)
